D.C. BOUND TO PROTECT OUR NATIONAL FORESTS

Frustrated by watching President Bush weaken the protections for our pristine National Forests. Join other folks by taking a little of Minnesota to D.C. on July 12-16th in an effort to hold Congress accountable for the mis-named, President Bush initiative "Healthy Forest Restoration Act." Learn about national forest issues and meet with members of Congress and Congressional staffers. 1/2 airfare and hotel paid by Sierra Club. Great opportunity to see Congress in action, learn to lobby, and to make a difference. To learn more about the lobby week call Clyde Hanson, (218) 387-9081 or email clyde.hanson@sierraclub.org.

CHIPPEWA AND SUPERIOR NATIONAL FORESTS NEED OUR COMMENTS

Our forestry campaign is amassing public support for protecting our national forests with better management plans. We are encouraging thousands of people to write comments to the US Forest Service, asking them to protect old growth forests and roadless areas and restore wildlife habitat that weve lost to excessive logging. http://northstar.sierraclubaction.org/showalert.asp?aaid=361 to send your comments! For more information and sample comments Joshua.davis@sierraclub.org.

BOARD THE BUS FOR OLD MILWAUKEE

Board the Bus - join people who care about forests in a visit to the key decision maker on Minnesota's National Forests - Randy Moore in Milwaukee, WI. Yes, our forests' future is set by someone in the great state east of Minnesota. We will meet with staff specialists in wilderness, ecology and timber and then a meeting with Mr. Moore. Date: TBD - last two weeks of July. Call Josh Davis, Forestry organizer if you are interested. (612-659-9124) or Joshua.davis@sierraclub.org.

SWIMMING IN NEW IDEAS?

Join other Chapter activists as we dive into the issues of storm water runoff, river protection, water privatization and other clean water issues. If you have clean water protection ideas bubbling to the surface, then join others at the second water committee meeting at 5:30 on Wednesday, June 25 at the Sierra Club office. For more info contact Karen Harder at ktharder@efg.com.

CHECK OUT THE SIERRA CLUBS BOOKMARK PROJECT

This Spring, the Sierra Club Air Toxics campaign began the bookmark project to raise awareness about coal pollution and programs that reduce coal pollution. So far, weve distributed bookmarks at public libraries, fishing supply stores, churches, and events. If you would like to distribute bookmarks in your community or arrange a public event on coal at your library, church, or social group, please visit http://northstar.sierraclub.org/campaigns/air/coal/bookmark/ or contact michelle.rosier@sierraclub.org.

MUGGLES - DOING THE RIGHT THING?

"The forest at Hogwarts is home to magical creatures like unicorns and centaurs. Because the Canadian editions are printed on Ancient-Forest Friendly paper, the Harry Potter books are helping to save magnificent forests in the Muggle world, forests that are home of magical animals such as Orangutans, Wolves and Bears. It's a good idea to respect ancient trees, especially if they have a temper like the Whomping Willow." - J. K. Rowling
