Support Transit - Action Alert!
In November, Minnesota voters will decide whether 40% of the revenues from the existing Motor Sales Vehicle Tax (MVST) should be dedicated to transit. Future legislators need to have the flexibility to decide if transit should get more funding as Minnesota's transportation needs change. Take action now at http://northstar.sierraclubaction.org/showalert.asp?aaid=1866.
What - No Plans for Earth Day and Earth Month?
Sign up today to help Mother Earth. Every person can make a difference and every person needs to make a difference. Join one of Sierra Club's three Earth Day actions to help the environment. Help Stillwater residents identify and protect the places they love; support West St. Paul folks as they work for light rail transit options; or join Shoreview activists as they sign up residents to purchase wind power. Each step gets us closer to a healthier Minnesota. http://www.northstar.sierraclub.org/
Hike by Moonlight
Join us May 13th as we hike by moonlight three to four miles in Lebanon Hills Park where "many undisturbed lakes and marshes are sprinkled throughout the woodlands and meadows, creating a peaceful escape." For more information and to RSVP go to http://northstar.sierraclub.org/activities/outings/2006/200605.html#20060513
Camping AND Activism? Sign me up for the Walk for Wind!
Build support for clean renewable energy with us this summer by helping with the Walk for Wind! To get media attention and educate the public about the benefits of renewable energy and the dangers of coal, we'll walk from towns in Western Minnesota to nearby wind farms, and have fun camping out the following night. Help us plan and join us for one or more of the walk weekends from May 13th - June 24th. Contact Cesia at 612-659-9124 or email to see how you can help.
Green Energy - It's Blowin' in the Wind
Join us on Wednesday, April 19th at the Shoreview Community Center to learn more about renewable and wind power and help us kick off the Shoreview Wind Power Challenge, a campaign to sign up residents for Windsource, a green energy program that adds new wind turbines to the power grid. For more information or to RSVP: or go to http://northstar.sierraclub.org/activities/events/2006/20060419.html.
Teach Our Children Well
Are you a formal or informal educator looking for ways to engage young people in learning about their local environment and community? Join us for a Project WET K-8 workshop at the Shoreview Community Center on Sunday April 23, 12 - 6:00pm, sponsored by Minnesota DNR Project WET and Sierra Club's Shoreview Green Community Campaign. For more information and registration information, go to http://northstar.sierraclub.org/activities/events/2006/20060423a.html or email .
Get the Spring (or Jump) on Elections
The Sierra Club is partnering with dozens of other progressive organizations to get the word out about the importance of this November's elections. Be a part of the fun as hundreds of volunteers gather on Saturday, May 6 to participate in Spring Election Action Day. We'll be going door-to-door in key neighborhoods to talk about what's at stake this November. Ready to go? Contact for more information, or to sign up. You can also learn more about Election Action Day at http://americavotes.org/states.cfm?ave_state=MN&mg=av
