Sierra Club volunteers are good environmental stewards!
To celebrate Earth Day 2005, Sierra Club volunteers teamed up with the Friends of the Minnesota Valley on a beautiful, sunny spring day. The goal: to help clean up the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge. A group of over 30 people, ranging from age 7 to 70, armed with garbage bags, work gloves, and orange safety vests, met at Cliff Fen Park in Burnsville. This local park is adjacent to the National Wildlife Refuge's Blackdog Unit in Burnsville. After fueling up on fruit, juice, and doughnuts, the group got to work. Volunteers over picked up well over 1,500 pounds of trash from the area! Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a well deserved, old fashioned BBQ in the park. Many participants said they enjoyed the opportunity to help spruce up a treasured local natural area while meeting others who shared similar environmental concerns.
