2006 Walk for Wind and March Against Mercury

Update: Our 2006 Walk for Wind is over - see how much fun we had, and please if you'd like to help us next year:

Join us for the Walk for Wind and March Against Mercury!

Show support for a clean, renewable energy future…

Celebrate our rich natural heritage and great potential for wind generation, camping out in Minnesota…

Raise critical awareness about the proposal for Big Stone II — a huge, new polluting coal plant…

We're taking the steps — utilities and decision-makers should, too!

Walk for Wind is a fun series of outdoor weekend walks to build awareness about the many benefits of renewable energy, curbing climate change, and the dangers posed by coal plants like the proposed Big Stone II expansion. Walking past wind farms, towns, lakes and prairies, each step and campout is a sign of our support for a cleaner, healthier, energy future.

How does it work?

Each weekend is different, but here is the basic framework:

Friday evening:
Camp out near a particular town, chat around the fire, have a good time.

Saturday morning:
Hold a brief community gathering where we invite people to learn about the benefits of renewable energy, Minnesota's wind power potential, and the danger of Big Stone II and other coal plants. We then walk together along a route that provides some public visibility, and if there is a wind farm or project nearby, take a look and possibly talk with the folks who operate it. Camp out at a new site nearby.

Sunday:
Walk back, or in some cases hold other activities.
