Chapter 13 - The Demon in the Dash
Most modern autos have a computer, often hidden somewhere hard to
reach. It controls the engine and the instruments, and who knows what
else. This computer (pictured below) is programmed at the factory and
can not be reprogrammed later.

One of its jobs is to prevent the car owner from making changes that the car maker would not approve of, such as replacing the gasoline engine with an electric motor!
So I was unhappy, but not surprised, that the computer spiked the instrument panel. When you turn the key on the Corvette, all the digital gauges are supposed to light up for a second, to show that they are active. But, now all the gauges are dark.

I removed the instrument cluster (see above) and opened it up. But I was over my head, I couldn't tell one circuit board from another.
Now I will have to go shopping for new gauges.
