Legislation Passed for ATVs in wetlands
Discussions concerning all-terrain vehicle legislation will continue in 2005 in the state Legislature that could have lasting effects on the health of state forests and wetland habitat. At the core of the debate is how public lands are used for recreation. ATV users claim they have as much right to public land as anyone else who uses it for recreational purposes.
But the cost to the environment is perhaps greater than anyone can estimate. How do you put a price on extinction? Yet many plant, and some animal species are threatened by damaged environment caused by renegade ATV use.
