What is the Minnesota Forest Watch Team?

Sierra Club's Minnesota Forest-Watch team works to protect and restore Minnesota’s forests. The team seeks to prevent irreparable harm to our state’s public lands while the Sierra Club pursues permanent protection of these resources. Forest-Watch volunteers work on:

  1. Monitoring the actions of agencies and companies responsible for resource extraction on Minnesota’s state, county, and federal public lands;
  2. Commenting on and influencing the outcome of significant actions proposed in the Superior and Chippewa National Forests;
  3. Providing input on and influencing logging plans on Minnesota State Forests;
  4. Challenging projects that would significantly impact or compromise Minnesota forests and the natural, social, and cultural resources they provide, primarily through the federal administrative appeals process;
  5. Providing information to the Forests Committee and its teams to assist in public outreach, organizing, public policy, and other goals.

How Can I Get Involved?

The Minnesota Forest-Watch team is in need of volunteers with a range of skills and talents! We're looking for folks who can hike to check out proposed logging projects on our public lands, take photographs, research forest laws, review science documents, write comments, and more! For more information on how to get involved, read the National Forest protection tutorial and the state forest logging tutorial, and contact .
