Mississippi Creek
Mississippi Creek Roadless Area contains three headwaters trout streams to the wild Cascade River. It is one of the largest wild forests in Minnesota, covering rich wetlands, thick moose habitat, and unsurveyed natural biodiversity.
| Yet the MN DNR proposes to log into the heart
of the roadless area, recklessly carving roads and squares in the wild
forest. In this map, orange indicates DNR plans to clearcut, green is planned thinning, and purple will be examined for possible logging. The years indicate the proposed stand exam. We have explored four access trails. Match the numbers on the map to
the description and photos below. |

| 1. Spur goes into sections 30 and 19. | |
| 2. FR 329 follows an old railroad grade that crosses Little Mississippi Creek, but ends in a clearcut at least a quarter section across. |
|
| 3. A hunting trail at the other end of the railroad grade goes south from 170 that has a bear-baiting station on it. It ends soon without a clear path continuing. [right] |

| 4. A bog area south of Babble Lake is reachable via a trail that ends in a bulldozed area 15 feet above the lake. At the bottom of the slope a plywood and timber walk has been built out over the bog to the lake. The bog area on that side of the lake is narrow but very interesting looking. |
