Dakota County sits just south of the Twin Cities and encompasses most of the southern metropolitan area south of the Minnesota and Mississippi rivers. The County consists of a 7 member county board made up of elected representatives from each of the 7 districts in the county. Along with the County Attorneyís office and the County Sheriff, there are numerous boards, committees and councils governs and administers county rules, regulations and programs.
Physical Development Division
The Physical Development Division (located at the Western Service Center in Apple Valley) is involved with many issues and concerns that affect planning, zoning, land use, protection of high-priority farmland and natural areas, County parks and trails, transportation (highways and transit), and water resources.
