Lobbying is not only for lawyers and legislators. Professional lobbyists use the same skills that people use in everyday situations. Everyday people can have a huge impact on public policy and legislation. With just a little background knowledge of the legislative process, anyone can become an effective citizen lobbyist.

While understanding the legislative process and the relevant terms is helpful, it’s important to remember that passing legislation always starts simply with an idea about how you want to change the law.

Most importantly, be creative. Develop your ideas, and follow through with them. Good laws begin as good ideas. And all those ideas need are dedicated people to carry them through the legislative process.
