Shoreview Green Community
The Shoreview Green Community is an effort, led by local Sierra Club members, to make Shoreview a model community for its environmental practices. The group began in 2005 and members have divided their focus into three areas: efficient resource use, transportation, and clean water.
The group's work in these areas evolved from the Shoreview Green Community Report released in November, 2005, which evaluated the city's performance as a Green Community so far, and set forth recommendations for improving local practices.
The campaign is part of the Sierra Club North Star Chapter's Sierra Communities campaign, a program which seeks to engage environmentalists and members in organizing around local conservation issues. For more information contact Margaret Levin at 612-659-9124 or .

Shoreview Sierra Club's Clean Water Committee Scores a Hit with Garden Tour
They came Saturday in the rain. They came Sunday under the cloudy/bright sky and sun. In all, nearly 150 people took the Shoreview Green Community Awards tour, August 4th and 5th, in Shoreview and along Lake Owasso in Roseville. Although most were from Shoreview and Roseville, the visitors came from 19 communities.
The objective of the tour was to teach residents how they can improve water quality by retaining storm water runoff in their own back — or front — yards. The seven winners' best management practices included rain gardens, shoreline and wetland buffers, a storm water retention pond and one permeable driveway. Four Sierra Club members exhibited their yards, as well. The average number of visitors per site was 73.
The tour was planned and conducted by the Shoreview Sierra Club's Clean Water Committee, with sponsorship by the City of Shoreview Environmental Quality Committee. Other sponsors included the Grass Lake Water Management Organization, the Rice Creek Watershed District and the Sierra Club North Star Chapter.
